Sally is a Elixr School of Pilates graduate who is passionate about being active and inspiring others to be create a healthy lifestyle. She completed her Matwork and Reformer Teacher Training with the Elixr School of Pilates in September 2015. We had a chat with her about her experience doing the Pilates Teacher Training and whats instore for her future.
Q. What were you doing during the Elixr School of Pilates teacher training, eg working full time, Mum etc?
I was (still am) working full-time in Digital, and now also part-time as Pilates Instructor. However I have a background in PersonalTraining, Nutrition and Wellness Coaching, and fully certified in all areas. I need variety and love mixing things up.
Q. Why did you choose the Elixr School of Pilates?
Trust me I did a lot of research, and it was a no-brainer. Reputation speaks for itself. Elixr is ‘the’ institution when it comes to Pilates training in the area. Elixr teachers are extremely professional, the training material, course content and delivery was all excellent. The studios are beautiful and the equipment top quality.
Also, the course information prior to enrol was consumer friendly and transparent e.g. policy and pricing was easy to access and understand. I also received instant response on my first enquiry about the course.
Q. What did you enjoy about the training?
Everything! I love learning new things and working out, so spending all day in the studio was ‘luxury’ to me. Most importantly, I made new friends and had a lot fun! I am also extremely thankful for all the support from teachers after course completion.
Q. How has the teacher training changed you and changed your career?
I can finally mix-up two careers and enjoy it. I love the fact that I can help, reach out to and communicate my ‘wellness’ message to 15-25 clients in one hour! It also helps me stay motivated, healthy and continuously improve myself.
Q. Are you teaching now? If so where?
I teach at Body-Ethos in Balmain and loving it. I am still a super active member of Elixr and practice Matwork and Reformer 4-5 times a week. I definitely practice what I teach, which supports the development of my clients and myself.
Q. What concerns or doubts did you have before the teacher training and how did they resolve/change once you started?
My goal was to complete both courses including all the practical, teaching and observations hours at the end of the course in 4 months. So my only concern prior to enrolling was the fact that I was working full-time, freelancing part-time and preparing for the City 2 Surf for the first time. I made it a priority to organise every hour of my week - and I made it!
I took both certificates on the first attempt right after completion and still very proud of it. Was I tired and sore? You bet, but totally worth it.
Q. People often worry that they are not ready or not fit/strong/healthy enough for the training. Did you have this concern and if so what would you say to those people who share this?
It obviously helps if you’re already active, but as long as you’re healthy and injury free it is not a concern since you will learn and get stronger as you go. There is plenty of time to complete the hours and certificates. Setup your own goals. So stop dreaming and just do it!
